Quinta Da Comporta: In-Depth Review

Table of Contents

One of our favourite hotels in the World, Quinta Da Comporta does not fail to make us love it more and more every time we visit.

Open since 2019 this project was envisioned by the brilliant architect Miguel Cancio Martins with the goal of incorporating nature into every stay.

Quinta Da Comporta: The hotel

Located in Comporta which is a lot of times described as the European Hamptons, the hotel is only 1 hour away from Lisbon's airport but it feels like you are in a completely different country, surrounded by white sand beaches, pine trees and rice fields. With shuttles available to the beaches around the hotel the only issue is deciding between the pool or the sea.

Quinta Da Comporta is all about providing guests with a luxurious stay but above anything the goal is to preserve the natural landscape and surrounding ecosystems as well as the traditions and history of the region.

The decor is tasteful with a combination of pieces made by local artisans, cool coffee table books and unique objects, you will want to take pictures of everything, believe us.

Ambience

Peace and tranquillity are the words to describe the hotel. Although there are babysitters available and big villas for families we would say this hotel is perfect for a romantic getaway as the vibe is more adult and serene. The only noise we heard were birds and other animals so if you are looking to disconnect from your busy life, there is no better place to do it.

The sunsets here are taken straight out of a postcard, the warm tones of orange set against the green rice fields and the strokes flying by create the perfect moment for a cocktail in the sun deck, just make sure to apply some mosquito repellent .

pro tip: if you visit during summer enjoy you drinks to the sound of live dj's on the sun deck

The Rooms

There are around 70 rooms in the hotel with options ranging from cosy double rooms to 3-bedroom villas with a private pool.

During our trip we stayed in a junior suite and when we walked into the room, we were met by this beautifully decorated space with wood elements and pops of yellow and blue. In true Comporta style, the room is airy and spacious and every detail feels luxurious in a discreet way.

The bed sheets and the pillows are insanely comfortable, that combined with a huge bed are the perfect combination for a good night of sleep. Don’t worry about the morning light coming in because the blinds provide a full blackout and the noise won’t be an issue either as all the rooms are soundproofed.

The bathroom is perfect for a couple with plenty of space to put toiletries and 2 sinks and mirrors. It has both a bathtub and a shower full of Oryza products (eco friendly and made with rice). The amenity kit included a wood comb and hairbrush, toothbrushes, shower caps, shaving kits, a vanity set, robes and slippers so if you forgot something they have got you covered. There is also a hairdryer, yoga mat and an umbrella for the winter days in Comporta.

There are tea bags, coffee pods and the mini bar was well stocked with juices, beer, wine and chocolates. Everything is complimentary.

There is a small kitchen area with a microwave, kettle, sink and a coffee machine perfect if you want to make/heat up basic meals.

Pool and Spa

Possibly the most photographed area of the hotel, the exterior infinity pool overlooking the rice fields is out of this world. The blue water against the bright green fields and the sounds of the birds chirping will put you into a whole new level of serenity.

There is a bar with ice cream, snacks, cocktails and the most amazing lemonade we have ever tried. If you need a hat, sunscreen or a magazine they are all available for guests.

The spa (open from 8am to 8pm) has an indoor pool connected to another exterior one, sauna and hammam. Whenever we went it wasn’t crowded at all and we were usually alone in there.

Fun fact, both pools are heated using energy created by 600m2 of solar panels! There are multiple treatments available from massages to exfoliations and face treatments.

The gym is located on the top floor of the spa with all the technogym equipment you need for a good workout as well as areas for stretching. All of this with breathtaking views to the rice fields.

Service

One of the highlights of our stay was the staff. From the person that greets you when you arrive to the waiters, cleaning saff, reception and spa personnel we did not have a single interaction that wasn’t remarkable; you will always be greeted with a smile and the most amazing energy.

You can tell they all enjoy what they do and that their main priority is that every guest has a perfect stay. Always happy to answer any questions and help out with whatever you need this hotel has perfect service and that alone makes us want to come back every time.

Restaurant

With a farm-to-table ideology, the menu changes every 4 months to incorporate seasonal and locally sourced ingredients (some directly from the hotels garden) and I can tell you can taste that.

We tried the red wine risotto and the sea food quinoa following the suggestion of our fantastic waiter Andre who knew all the particularities of the menu.

There is a sushi menu brought by Chef Koji renowned sushi chef who caters to the Japanese embassy in Lisbon. Our expectations were very high and we were not disappointed, the quality of the ingredients was fantastic and every piece was a carefully curated experience.

Breakfast is served buffet style with a huge variety of options including pastries and bread, cakes, cheese boards, smoked salmon, a lot of fruit, salads, juices and ven chia puddings.

You can order eggs, avocado toast and specialty drinks such as matcha and lattes (with all milk options) at no extra charge. You can take your coffee, sit outside and enjoy the view.

Activities

Because the hotel has a strong intention of providing a wellness experience, there are yoga and pilates classes available for guests as well as bikes, free to take for a ride.

Picnics and horse riding in the beach can be organized with the help of he reception staff who is also happy to help you with any other booking you might want to make.

Conclusion

It is not a cheap hotel but we can assure you the splurge is so worth it. A weekend in Quinta Da Comporta is more relaxing than 2 weeks in other hotels we have visited. Everything is thought about so you can simply enjoy your stay relaxing by the pool or at the beach, trying new food and reading a good book. We cannot recommend this place enough and if it isn’t on your bucket list yet this is the moment to add it.
