Salzburg Festival: Access & Travel Guide

Salzburg Festival rewards a performance-led approach: choose the opera, concert or theatre evening that matters most, then shape the city stay around it. The long summer window is not a single event ticket or all-access pass.

Edition and official dates

16 July–29 August 2027 is the summer festival window displayed on the official Salzburg Festival website. The individual performance programme, seats and booking stages must be checked separately.

Tickets, invitations and hospitality

Consult the official programme and ticketing information for the specific performance, venue and seating category. Ticket applications, subscriptions and available-seat sales should not be treated as interchangeable or guaranteed. A cultural travel package must identify the actual performance and seats. Private receptions, artist meetings and backstage access are not included unless expressly confirmed by the relevant organiser.

Where to base your stay

A central Salzburg base makes the old town and many festival venues convenient, but verify the address of each performance. Productions are staged in different spaces, and a familiar festival name does not identify a single entrance. Compare evening return transport and check whether your restaurant booking fits the advertised running time.

Build a considered itinerary

Make one performance the anchor of each day, with room for a museum, a walk or a relaxed lunch. Check surtitles, running times and intervals once the programme is released. Avoid booking tightly timed transfers immediately after the curtain, especially when your itinerary spans different venues.

Before you book

Ask for the exact booked day or session, admission category, venue, seat or reservation requirements, total price and currency, delivery method, cancellation policy and transfer restrictions. Confirm whether transport, dining, drinks and the main event ticket are included or quoted separately. Book only against written inclusions, and review the organiser’s latest information before departure.
