Venice Carnival: Access & Travel Guide

Venice Carnival is a city-wide occasion, not a single ticketed event. Decide whether you want the public atmosphere, a named performance or a separately booked ball, then leave room to enjoy Venice at a slower pace.

Edition and official dates

23 January–9 February 2027 is the carnival window stated on the official Venice Carnival website. Individual performances, public events and private balls follow their own schedules.

Tickets, invitations and hospitality

Use the official programme for public events and verify any ticketed performance separately. A private masked ball is organised and sold as its own event; it is not automatically part of general carnival participation. Confirm the named venue, organiser, dress or costume requirements, dining inclusions and admission terms before paying for a package.

Where to base your stay

Choose your base with the final journey home in mind. A Venice island hotel and a mainland hotel create different evening itineraries, especially after a late ball. Verify water-bus or water-taxi arrangements, walking routes with luggage and any local visitor requirements that apply on the dates of your stay.

Build a considered itinerary

Reserve the principal ticketed evening first, then build daytime visits and public celebrations around it. Avoid assuming the busiest square will be the best place to spend every hour. Make room for quieter neighbourhoods and a relaxed meal, and check the official programme again shortly before travel.

Before you book

Ask for the exact booked day or session, admission category, venue, seat or reservation requirements, total price and currency, delivery method, cancellation policy and transfer restrictions. Confirm whether transport, dining, drinks and the main event ticket are included or quoted separately. Book only against written inclusions, and review the organiser’s latest information before departure.
