Chinese Grand Prix: Tickets, Hospitality & Travel Guide

Shanghai suits travellers who want a major-city break alongside the racing. Our view is that the Chinese Grand Prix becomes a much better trip when you accept the distance between central Shanghai and the circuit rather than trying to eliminate it with optimistic taxi estimates. Stay where you want to spend your non-racing time, then make transport a deliberate part of the budget.

Dates, venue and the latest edition

2027 calendar: 16 - 18 Apr 2027. Dates can change; confirm the organiser’s latest timetable before booking. Shanghai International Circuit is the planning reference for this guide. Session times, support races and entry arrangements should be checked on the official event page. Do not assume last year’s timetable or access rules apply.

Which tickets should you compare?

Compare the main straight with a braking-zone view if you want to see the contrast between Shanghai’s long acceleration sections and slow corners. For a first race, we favour a reserved seat with a clear screen view over a vague promise of being close to the action. Check access days, covered areas and the distance from the entrance to your section.

A main-straight seat prioritises the grid and pit activity; corner stands focus on braking and racing lines. Ask whether a package includes the same seat on every day.

Where to stay and how to reach the circuit

The Bund and central Shanghai make attractive city-led bases; a closer circuit-area stay may suit someone attending every session. Neither choice is universally best. Compare the complete rail or road journey for your own gate, and account for crowding after the race. Ask for a transport plan that includes the return, not merely an arrival estimate.

Compare the total trip cost rather than the room rate alone: transfers, minimum stays, cancellation terms and time spent travelling all matter. Ask the hotel to confirm race-weekend arrival arrangements and keep restaurant reservations flexible until session times are released.

A practical weekend plan

Spend a first day in central Shanghai before the event and treat each circuit visit as the main activity of that day. Keep dinners flexible after racing. An additional city day after the weekend is more rewarding than trying to rush a Bund visit between the end of a session and your return transfer.

Booking safely and requesting a proposal

Use the official organiser or a supplier whose authorisation and delivery terms you can verify. Before paying, request the exact product, currency, taxes, cancellation conditions, delivery method and any names required on tickets. Social-media photos are not proof of the current package.

Ask Velloy about your dates, guests, viewing priorities and hotel requirements. An enquiry is not a confirmed booking. Membership is a separate option if you want to explore help with trips beyond this event; specific rates, access and inclusions must be confirmed before payment.

Frequently asked questions

Can I stay in central Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix?

Yes, if the wider city stay matters to you. Treat the journey to Shanghai International Circuit as part of the daily budget and allow time for the final walk and return crowds.

Can I book next year using this guide?

Use the guide for planning, but recheck the edition note and official calendar before non-refundable arrangements. Dates and ticket releases are maintained on this same evergreen page.

Do I need membership to enquire?

Contact Velloy to discuss the event and ask which services are available. Request the requirements and fees applicable to your proposal rather than assuming membership includes a ticket.

The planning detail we would not overlook

Check current entry rules, transit arrangements and the documents required for your nationality before purchasing flights. Download your hotel address, tickets and route information in advance. Our planning tip is to test the essentials on the arrival day: a working payment method, access to tickets and the correct transport route reduce avoidable race-morning friction.
