San Sebastián Film Festival: Tickets, Access & Travel Guide

San Sebastián is our choice for a film festival trip where the destination’s food and coastal setting deserve time of their own. Donostia’s relatively compact centre can make a considered itinerary enjoyable, but the Kursaal and other cinemas are not one interchangeable venue.

San Sebastián is our choice for a film festival trip where the destination’s food and coastal setting deserve time of their own. Donostia’s relatively compact centre can make a considered itinerary enjoyable, but the Kursaal and other cinemas are not one interchangeable venue. We would choose fewer films and preserve an evening meal rather than turn the stay into a permanent queue.

Dates, venue and edition status

Evergreen planning guide. The official organiser pages did not provide a usable next-edition schedule for the 6 October 2026 review; dates and ticket releases require current confirmation. Kursaal and participating cinemas is the venue reference. Check the current programme and screening-specific access conditions separately.

Public tickets, passes and accreditation

Compare named public screenings with any official pass or accreditation route offered for your edition. Check the film, venue, language, subtitles and arrival rules before paying. A festival credential or a premium seat is not proof of access to a private reception. Buy the screening you want, not an assumed cast appearance.

Film line-ups, talent appearances and Q&As can change. Buy for the screening itself and review the organiser’s cancellation and late-arrival policy. Accreditation has eligibility requirements and may involve deadlines, evidence of professional activity and further reservations.

Where to stay and getting around

Gros suits a Kursaal-oriented itinerary; the centre and Old Town suit a broader dining-led stay, while La Concha adds a different coastal focus. Choose against the actual cinema list and late walking routes. Our preference is a base that makes both the final screening and the return after dinner manageable.

Compare room cancellation terms, minimum stays and the actual journey to your first and last bookings. If your accommodation and event purchase come from different suppliers, check both policies independently. A convenient base usually matters more than squeezing the maximum number of bookings into each day.

Build a realistic itinerary

Build each day around one priority film and a realistic second choice. Leave room for introductions and discussions, then group meals and cinemas by neighbourhood. Keep a separate half-day for the bay or a wider Basque Country excursion instead of booking it between sessions.

What to confirm before you pay

Request the exact product, booked date or session, seat or reservation requirements, total price and currency, taxes, delivery method, cancellation terms and transfer restrictions. For hospitality, clarify whether dining, drinks, transport and the event ticket are included or quoted separately. Only written inclusions should inform the purchase.

Planning with Velloy

Contact Velloy with your preferred edition, number of guests, access priorities and hotel requirements. The team can explain which services and proposals are available; an enquiry is not a confirmed ticket or reservation. Explore membership separately for broader travel planning, and ask which rates, fees and benefits apply to your trip.

Frequently asked questions

Should I book a long dinner immediately after a festival film?

We would leave margin for introductions, discussions and the walk between venues. In San Sebastián, a flexible pintxos stop can fit a gap better than a tightly timed restaurant across town.

Can I buy red-carpet or private-party access?

Only rely on an event whose invitation or ticket conditions can be verified. Public screening access, accreditation and a party invitation are not interchangeable, and Velloy does not promise access on this page.

When should I book accommodation?

Once the relevant edition and access plan are clear, compare suitable hotels. If booking before ticket confirmation, use terms that protect you against a changed itinerary and avoid assuming the organiser will reimburse unrelated travel.

The planning detail we would not overlook

The retrieved organiser page did not expose a usable current schedule, and an alternate page failed, so no next-edition dates or sales calendar are verified here. Our editorial recommendation is to book a restaurant only after checking the screening’s likely finish and possible discussion. Pintxos stops suit a flexible gap better than a tightly timed tasting menu across town.
